Byen ligger cirka 12 kilometer nordøst for Wolvega mellem Nijeholtpade og Nijeberkoop. Den 1. januar 2021 havde byen 1.570 indbyggere. Under byen hører også bosættelserne Bekhof og Deddingabuurt. Fra den lille havn i byen ved den tidligere foderfabrik løber kanalen Prinsenwijk mod nord mod Tjonger.
