Die österreichische Stadtgemeinde Waidhofen an der Thaya mit 5248 Einwohnern liegt im nördlichen Waldviertel in Niederösterreich. Als Hauptstadt des gleichnamigen Verwaltungsbezirks ist sie die nördlichste Bezirkshauptstadt Österreichs.Waidhofen an der Thaya liegt am Oberlauf der Deutschen Thaya, die die Stadt, eingebettet in das Waldviertler Granit- und Gneishochland, von Süden nach Norden durchfließt. Der Lensbach, der Große Radlbach und der Kaltenbach münden auf dem Gemeindegebiet in den Fluss ein.
