Die Gemeinde liegt im Gerichtsbezirk Reutte.Grän ist die höchstgelegene Gemeinde im Tannheimer Tal, einem Hochtal an der Grenze zu Bayern. Sie liegt an der Einmündung des Engetals, welches eine Verbindung zum süddeutschen Raum darstellt. Das nicht besiedelte Strindenbachtal im Süden zählt auch zum Gemeindegebiet.
