Gmünd ist eine Stadt im nordwestlichen Waldviertel in Niederösterreich mit 5182 Einwohnern . Sie ist Sitz der Bezirkshauptmannschaft des Bezirkes Gmünd.Gmünd , das wirtschaftliche, kulturelle und touristische Zentrum des oberen Waldviertels, ist zugleich ein wichtiger Bahn- und Straßenübergang an der Grenze zu Tschechien . Auf dem Gebiet der Stadtgemeinde befindet sich der größte Teil des Naturparks Blockheide-Eibenstein.
