Der Wörthersee, gelegentlich auch Wörther See , ist der größte See Kärntens und zugleich aufgrund seiner klimatischen Lage einer der wärmsten Alpenseen.Der Wörthersee ist 19,39 km² groß und erstreckt sich in Ost-West-Richtung über 16,5 km. Er liegt in einer Senke in der Hügellandschaft des Klagenfurter Beckens, die zu einem großen Teil von Gletschern in der Eiszeit geformt wurde. Die Seewanne reicht von der Veldener Bucht bis nach Klagenfurt. Das Einzugsgebiet des Wörthersees umfasst eine Fläche von 162,1 km².
