Die Schesaplana ist mit einer Höhe von 2965 m ü. A. der höchste Berg im Rätikon und gehört noch zu den Ostalpen. Ihr Name setzt sich aus „Saxa“ und „plana“ zusammen. Weitere, früher benutzte Bezeichnungen waren „Sergia – plana“ und „Scaessa Planna“. Über ihren Gipfel verläuft die Staatsgrenze zwischen dem österreichischen Bundesland Vorarlberg und dem Schweizer Kanton Graubünden. Am Nordhang befindet sich der Brandner Gletscher, am Ostfuß liegt der Lünersee, mit 1,6 Quadratkilometern Fläche einer der größten Bergseen Vorarlbergs. Mit einer Tiefe von ca. 139 m ist dieser auch der tiefste Bergsee des Bundeslandes.
