Der Bezirk Deutschlandsberg liegt im Südwesten der Steiermark in den Lavanttaler Alpen. Er wird im Westen und Südwesten von der Koralpe begrenzt und im Südosten – östlich des Radlpasses – vom Poßruck. Im Norden wird er durch die östlichen Ausläufer der Packalpe begrenzt. Lediglich im Osten existiert keine natürliche Grenze. Der Bezirk misst sowohl in Nord-Süd- als auch in Ost-West-Richtung an der breitesten Stelle circa 35 km.
