Die Weltausstellung 1873 fand vom 1. Mai bis zum 2. November 1873 in Wien statt. Sie war die fünfte Weltausstellung und die erste im deutschsprachigen Raum.
Sie sollte das wieder gewachsene Selbstbewusstsein Österreichs nach den verlorenen Kriegen gegen Piemont/Frankreich und Preußen präsentieren. Das Projekt wurde sowohl von liberalen Politikern unter dem Wiener Bürgermeister Cajetan Felder als auch von Vertretern der österreichischen Wirtschaft und Landwirtschaft unterstützt. Im offiziellen Programm wurde verlautbart, dass die internationale Ausstellung das Kulturleben der Gegenwart und das Gesamtgebiet der Volkswirtschaft darstellen und deren weiteren Fortschritt fördern soll.
