Die Leopoldstadt ist seit 1850 der 2. Wiener Gemeindebezirk. Benannt ist sie nach Kaiser Leopold I. In der Leopoldstadt befindet sich der Prater mit dem Wiener Riesenrad, das als ein Wahrzeichen der Stadt gilt.Der 2. Bezirk liegt auf der Insel zwischen Donau und Donaukanal und grenzt mit letzterem an den 1. Bezirk. Das Ufergebiet des Donaukanals oberhalb der Ulrichgasse gehört zur Außenzone der Welterbestätte Historisches Zentrum von Wien. An die Leopoldstadt grenzen außerdem die Bezirke 3, 9, 11 und 20 sowie jenseits der Donau der 22. Bezirk. Den größten Teil des 2. Bezirkes nimmt der Prater ein.
