Heraus aus dem Haus und schon geht es bergauf, hinauf zur Eppzirler Scharte, die absolute Trittsicherheit erfordert und von wo aus man den Großen und den Kleinen Solstein, die westlichen Eckpfeiler der Nordkette, besonders gut sieht. Nach dem Schuttkar führt ein guter Weg in Serpentinen hinab. Auf ca. 1.700 Meter Höhe taucht man in ein grünes Almgebiet ein und gelangt schließlich zur Eppzirler Alm mit ihrem reizvollen Hüttenensemble und der kleinen Kapelle. Durchs Eppzirler Tal geht es gemütlich aus- bzw. abwärts zur Gießenbachklamm, wo der Steig zunehmend felsiger wird. Vom Scharnitzer Ortsteil Gießenbach führt der Weg in Richtung Scharnitz, dann über den Hohen Sattel und durch lichten Mischwald nach Leutasch.
