Im Juli 1836 legte der berühmte belgische Mathematiker Adolphe Quetelet die Meridianlinie in der Sint-Goedele-Kirche in Brüssel fest. Man kann diese Kupferlinie noch immer besichtigen. Zusammen mit dem Lichtfleck kann man selbst die Mittagszeit bestimmen. Unter dem Bein von Ludwig II. von Ungarn, der im Fenster dargestellt wird, ist das Lichtloch angebracht. Dieses Loch wirft einen Lichtfleck auf die Kupferlinie am Mittag. Am besten kommt man ein oder zwei Stunden vor dem Mittag (je nachdem, ob es Sommer- oder Winterzeit ist), denn man wird feststellen, dass die tatsächliche Mittagszeit nicht mit der 12 Uhr auf deiner Uhr übereinstimmt.
