Die Lage der U-Bahn-Station wurde bis zum 12. Januar 1998 als Endpunkt der Straßenbahnlinie 56 genutzt. Als 1998 die Arbeiten zur Verlängerung der U-Bahn begannen, wurde beschlossen, die Straßenbahnen auf die Haltestelle Sint-Niklaas zu beschränken und einen Zubringerdienst in Form eines Busses zwischen Erasmus und Sint-Niklaas einzurichten. Das eigene Gleis auf der Bergensesteenweg wurde ebenfalls außer Betrieb genommen, während die Straßenbahnen der Linie 56 weiterhin mit dem Ziel "Erasmus [H]" fuhren. Am 15. September 2003 wurde die U-Bahn-Station Erasmus als Endpunkt der U-Bahn-Linie 1B in Betrieb genommen und die Straßenbahnlinie 56 auf Debussy beschränkt. Seit der Überarbeitung des U-Bahn-Netzes im Jahr 2009 verkehrt die U-Bahn-Linie 5 durch diese Station.
