Der Friedenswald mag zwar jetzt noch nicht stark wie ein Wald aussehen, aber das ist wohl die Absicht in Kürze. Dies wird ein Schlosswald, der die Deformationsstruktur als Grundlage nutzt.
Der Friedenswald ist Teil des Naturschutzgebiets (oder Grünpool) der Gentbrugse Meersen.
Der erste Baum wurde hier im November 2008 von drei Bürgermeistern gepflanzt; einem aus Hiroshima, einem aus Wolgograd (Russland) und einem aus Gent (Daniel Termont).
