Westflandern ist die einzige belgische Provinz, die an der Küste liegt. Der westliche und nördliche Teil der Provinz besteht hauptsächlich aus den flachen Poldern, im Westen durch den Fluss Ijzer durchzogen, der in Nieuwpoort in das Meer mündet. Das Binnenland ist weniger flach, und im Süden befindet sich das Westflämische Hügelland, dessen höchste Erhebung der Kemmelberg (156 m) ist. Der Südosten der Provinz wird durch den Fluss Leie durchzogen, der weiter nach Ostflandern fließt. Im äußersten Südosten wird die Provinzgrenze durch die Schelde gebildet.
