Die Moeren wurden erst im 17. Jahrhundert trockengelegt. Das Gebiet liegt noch immer unter dem Meeresspiegel, und überschüssiges Wasser wird in höher gelegene Gebiete gepumpt und abgeleitet. Die Landschaft zeichnet sich durch gerade Verbindungswege aus, die von Bäumen gesäumt sind, und durch quadratische oder rechteckige Parzellen. Hier und da steht noch eine alte Windmühle oder die Überreste davon, mit denen Wasser hochgepumpt wurde. Das Gebiet erstreckt sich über die Grenze und wird dort 'Les Moëres' genannt.
