Lampernisse hat eine Fläche von 13,62 km² und zählt (Daten 2007) fast 200 Einwohner. Laut Messungen ist es die geräuscharmste Gemeinde der Westhoek.
Es ist mehr als wahrscheinlich die Geburtsstadt von Nicolaas Zannekin, einem Flamen, der sich gegen die Unterdrückung und die Annexionspolitik des damaligen französischen Königs Philipp VI. und seiner Anhänger in Flandern widersetzte. Er fiel während der Schlacht bei Kassel im Jahr 1328.
