Sint-Martens-Bodegem stammt bereits aus dem 11. Jahrhundert. Die ältesten Erwähnungen lauten Bodenghem (1086, 1227) und Bodeghem im Jahr 1267. Sint-Martens-Bodegem war im Mittelalter Teil eines Herrschaftsgebiets, das als Lehen vom Land Dongelberg gehalten wurde. Das Gebiet hatte eine eigene Schöffenbank, einen Vogt und ein Lehenhof sowie eine Zinsheherrschaft, die zusammen mit Teilen von Itterbeek und Dilbeek von den Herren von Gaasbeek als Lehen gehalten wurde. 1284 stand dieser letzte Teil unter der Gerichtsbarkeit einer Schöffenbank, die ebenfalls für Itterbeek und Strijtem zuständig war. 1698 wurden die Lehen der Herren von Gaasbeek zum sogenannten Grafenamt Tirimont erhoben. Die Kirche kam 1604 unter das Patronat des Mechelner St. Rombouts-Kapitels.
