Das Ardennenmassiv ist ein alter variszischer Block, der aus Sandsteinen, Kalksteinen und paläozoischen Schiefern besteht. Es setzt sich in Deutschland mit dem Schiefermassiv von Rhenan fort. Die Höhe variiert im Allgemeinen zwischen 300 und 400 m, und hier befindet sich der höchste Punkt Belgiens, der Signal de Botrange, mit 694 m. Es ist das Herz der Ardennenregion.
