Der Friedhof von Oeren, im Schatten der Kirche, lag ausnahmsweise nicht an einem Krankenhaus oder Verbandplatz, sondern war ein Ausweichort für den viel zu überfüllten Friedhof von Alveringem.
Im März 1915 sind auf dem Friedhof von Alveringem bereits etwa 200 Soldaten begraben. Da die Situation dort unhaltbar wird, wird die Einrichtung eines Militärfriedhofs in Oeren angeordnet, gegen den Willen der Gemeinde. Aber auch das ist nur von kurzer Dauer, Anfang November 1915 wird der Friedhof von Oeren "vorläufig" geschlossen. Von da an werden die Leichname der gefallenen Soldaten zum Militärfriedhof von Adinkerke überführt. Erst ab 1917 werden erneut gefallene Soldaten in Oeren begraben.
