Mit 'Prins de Ligne' ist Karel von Arenberg (1515 -1616) gemeint. Karel, Sohn von Jean de Ligne und Margaretha vander Marck, erbte den Namen 'Arenberg' von seiner Mutter, die in ihrem Ehevertrag festlegte, dass ihre Kinder den ausgestorbenen Namen Arenberg und das Wappen ihrer Vorfahren tragen durften.
Ursprünglich war diese Verbindung zwischen der Naamsesteenweg und der Waversebaan nicht mehr als ein Feldweg. Er wurde gepflastert und 1905 anlässlich der Feierlichkeiten zum 75. Jahrestag der belgischen Unabhängigkeit in Prins de Lignestraat umbenannt.
