Das Brusselpoort ist ein beeindruckendes und massives Gebäude aus dem 13. Jahrhundert und liegt direkt in der Mitte der Ringstraße von Mechelen.
Das alte Stadttor ist das höchste der zwölf Tore , die als Stadtmauer errichtet wurden. Daher hieß das Tor ursprünglich „Overste Poort“. Zu dieser Zeit wurde auch ein weiteres Tor gebaut, das „Brusselse Poort“ . Als der alte Brusselse Poort abgerissen wurde und der Nieuwe Steenweg in Brüssel Mechelen erreichte, wurde beschlossen, ihn in „Overste Poort“ umzubenennen.
Der Brusselpoort ist der einzige, der noch in Mechelen existiert. Leider wurde das Eisentor bereits im 18. Jahrhundert abgerissen.
Brusselpoort diente als Polizeistation , später als Versammlungsraum und Kunstatelier des bekannten Künstlers Alfred Ost. Für kurze Zeit wurde das Brusselpoort als Stadtmuseum unter den Fittichen der Städtischen Museen von Mechelen genutzt.
