Das Schloss Chillon wurde durch Lord Byron populär, der das Gedicht Der Gefangene von Chillon (1816) über François de Bonivard, einen Genfer Mönch und Politiker, der von 1530 bis 1536 dort gefangen war, schrieb; Byron schnitzte auch seinen Namen in einen Pfeiler des Verließe. Das Schloss ist einer der Schauplätze in Henry James' Novelle Daisy Miller (1878).
