Genf ist eine Stadt und politische Gemeinde sowie der Hauptort des gleichnamigen Kantons Genf in der Schweiz.
Die Stadt liegt am südwestlichen Zipfel der französischen Schweiz in der Genferseeregion am Ausfluss der Rhone aus dem Genfersee. Mit ihren 201'818 Einwohnern ist Genf nach Zürich die zweitgrösste Stadt der Schweiz. 47,8 Prozent der Einwohner verfügen nicht über das Schweizer Bürgerrecht, womit Genf zu den Städten mit sehr hohem Ausländeranteil zählt. Die statistische Bevölkerungsdichte hat mit 12'701 Einwohnern pro Quadratkilometer einen äusserst hohen Wert für Schweizer Verhältnisse. Die 1,2 Millionen Einwohner zählende Metropolregion Genf-Lausanne ist ein erweiterter Ballungsraum und ist der bedeutendste der französischen Schweiz.
