Die II. Olympischen Winterspiele fanden vom 11. bis 19. Februar 1928 in St. Moritz in der Schweiz statt. Sie waren die ersten eigenständigen Winterspiele, die nicht in Verbindung mit Sommerspielen ausgetragen wurden. Die vorangegangenen Winterspiele von 1924 erklärte das Internationale Olympische Komitee erst rückwirkend zu Olympischen Winterspielen, sie waren eigentlich Teil der Sommerspiele 1924.
Die Spiele waren geprägt von einem zu dieser Jahreszeit außergewöhnlich warmen Wetter. Nachdem am 15. Februar gar keine Wettkämpfe stattfinden konnten, gab es zahlreiche Änderungen im Zeitplan. Der 10.000-Meter-Eisschnelllauf, zunächst abgebrochen, konnte schließlich gar nicht mehr durchgeführt werden.
