Oberndorf am Neckar liegt im Oberen Neckartal, am Fuße des Kleinen Heubergs, zwischen Schwarzwald und Schwäbischer Alb in 450 bis 700 m ü. NHN.
Teile des Oberndorfer Stadtgebiets entlang des Neckars gehören zum insgesamt rund 2203 Hektar großen FFH-Gebiet 7620-343 Neckartal zwischen Rottweil und Sulz. In dieses europaweit bedeutsame Schutzgebiet sind die Naturschutzgebiete Brandhalde , Mittlere Bollerhalde und Kälberhalde eingegliedert.
