Rudersberg liegt am westlichen Rand des Welzheimer Waldes im Wieslauftal in 270 bis 536 Meter Höhe zwischen Schorndorf und Backnang. Das Gemeindegebiet hat Anteil an den Naturräumen Schurwald und Welzheimer Wald, Schwäbisch-Fränkische Waldberge und Neckarbecken.
Zur Gemeinde Rudersberg gehören 29 separat gelegene Dörfer, Weiler, Höfe und Häuser sowie einige Wüstungen, die wie folgt den ehemaligen Gemeinden vor der baden-württembergischen Gebietsreform der 1970er Jahre zugeordnet sind.
