Der Landkreis Groß-Gerau ist eine Gebietskörperschaft mit 276.307 Einwohnern im hessischen Regierungsbezirk Darmstadt. Die traditionelle Bezeichnung Kreis Groß-Gerau ist entsprechend der Eigenbezeichnung der Kreisverwaltung noch immer allgemein üblich.
Der Landkreis liegt im oberen Rheingraben. Der Main bildet die nördliche, der Rhein die westliche Grenze. Ein großer Teil des Kreises liegt im Hessischen Ried.
