Melsungen ist eine im Kern mittelalterliche Kleinstadt und ein Luftkurort im nordhessischen Schwalm-Eder-Kreis.
Melsungen liegt im Nordostteil des Schwalm-Eder-Kreises zwischen dem Melsunger Bergland im Osten und dem Homberger Hochland im Westen. Seine Kernstadt befindet sich am Einfluss des Kehrenbachs in die Fulda. Unweit südlich der Kernstadt mündet beim Industriegebiet Pfieffewiesen die Pfieffe und unterhalb des nördlichen Stadtteils Röhrenfurth an der Grenze zu Körle die Mülmisch in die Fulda.
