Bad Homburg vor der Höhe ist die Kreisstadt des Hochtaunuskreises mit 54.144 Einwohnern und eine von sieben Städten mit Sonderstatus im Land Hessen und gemäß hessischem Landesentwicklungsplan als Mittelzentrum ausgewiesen.
Bad Homburg liegt in der Metropolregion Frankfurt/Rhein-Main. International bekannt geworden ist die Stadt – seit 1912 mit dem Zusatz „Bad“ – durch ihre zahlreichen Wasserquellen als Kur- und späterer Kongressort und auf Grund der bereits 1841 gegründeten Spielbank, die „Mutter von Monte-Carlo“ genannt wird. Mit einem Kaufkraftindex von 156,4 lag Bad Homburg 2020 im bundesweiten Spitzenbereich.
