St. Pauli ist ein Stadtteil im Bezirk Hamburg-Mitte der Freien und Hansestadt Hamburg. Durch das in St. Pauli gelegene Vergnügungsviertel entlang der Reeperbahn und den FC St. Pauli ist der Name weit über die Grenzen der Stadt hinaus bekannt.
Seinen heutigen Namen verdankt der Stadtteil der St.-Pauli-Kirche, die wiederum nach dem Apostel Paulus benannt ist. Die Umbenennung der vormaligen Vorstadt Hamburger Berg in St. Pauli erfolgte im Jahr 1833. Eine Inschrift an den Torpfosten zum Kirchhof an der Antonistraße erinnert daran. Dank einer Verschiebung der Stadtteilgrenzen in der NS-Zeit liegt die namensgebende Kirche heute jedoch nicht mehr im Stadtteil, sondern im benachbarten Altona.
