Der Landkreis Ansbach im Regierungsbezirk Mittelfranken ist flächenmäßig der größte Landkreis Bayerns. Die kreisfreie Stadt Ansbach ist ganz vom Landkreis Ansbach umgeben und gleichzeitig dessen Sitz. Der Landkreis ist Mitglied der Metropolregion Nürnberg.
Die Europäische Wasserscheide trennt von Nordwesten bis Südosten des Landkreises die Wasserläufe zu den großen Flüssen Rhein und Donau. Der tiefste Punkt im Landkreis liegt bei Tauberzell , der höchste Punkt ist der Hesselberg mit 689,4 m ü. NN.
