Der Rhein-Lahn-Kreis ist eine Gebietskörperschaft im nördlichen Rheinland-Pfalz und liegt zwischen Koblenz und der Landeshauptstadt Mainz. Sitz der Kreisverwaltung ist Bad Ems, die bevölkerungsreichste Stadt ist Lahnstein. Der Landkreis entstand im Jahr 1969 im Rahmen der rheinland-pfälzischen Gebiets- und Verwaltungsreform aus den gleichzeitig aufgelösten Landkreisen Loreleykreis und Unterlahnkreis .
