Die Gemeinde Schermbeck liegt zwischen der Region Niederrhein und dem westfälischen Münsterland im Nordwesten von Nordrhein-Westfalen. Die kreisangehörige Gemeinde im Kreis Wesel gehört zum Regierungsbezirk Düsseldorf und ist Mitglied der Euregio Rhein-Waal.
Die Gemeinde Schermbeck liegt ungefähr 8 km von Dorsten und 18 km von Wesel bzw. jeweils 17 km von Dinslaken und Bottrop entfernt. Das gesamte Gemeindegebiet ist Teil des Naturparks Hohe Mark-Westmünsterland, zu dem im Westen die Naturschutzgebiete Loosen Berge, Dämmerwald und Lichtenhagen, im Osten die Üfter Mark als Teil des Waldgebiets Forst Gewerkschaft August zählen. Sowohl die Lippe als auch der Wesel-Datteln-Kanal durchqueren das Gemeindegebiet auf je rund 4 km ihres Verlaufs.
