Sebnitz ist eine Große Kreisstadt im Landkreis Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge. Sie ist ein staatlich anerkannter Erholungsort in Ostsachsen am Rande des Nationalparks Sächsische Schweiz. Sebnitz wird auch Stadt der Kunstblumen oder Stadt der Seidenblumen genannt.
Die Stadt Sebnitz liegt im Tal des Flusses Sebnitz und dessen Seitentälern zwischen 250 und 460 m über NN zwischen der Sächsischen Schweiz und dem Lausitzer Bergland. Naturräumlich liegt das Stadtgebiet im Westlausitzer Hügel- und Bergland, grenzt aber unmittelbar an den Naturraum Oberlausitzer Bergland. Da der Naturraum Sächsische Schweiz ebenfalls sehr nah liegt, ist die Landschaft um die Stadt abwechslungsreich. Hausberg von Sebnitz ist der schon in Tschechien liegende Berg Tanzplan . Östlich von Sebnitz liegt Dolní Poustevna im Schluckenauer Zipfel.
