Der Landkreis Osnabrück liegt im Südwesten des Landes Niedersachsen in Deutschland. Er gehört zur Metropolregion Nordwest.
Mit 2121 km² ist er nach dem benachbarten Landkreis Emsland und der Region Hannover der drittgrößte Kommunalverband in Niedersachsen. Er besteht aus 34 Gemeinden, unter ihnen acht Städte. Es bestehen 17 Einheitsgemeinden und vier Samtgemeinden mit 17 Mitgliedsgemeinden . Die Größe der Gemeinden liegt zwischen unter 7.000 und mehr als 45.000 Einwohnern. Der Landkreis bildet den Hauptteil des Osnabrücker Landes.
