Der wichtigste Bahnhof der rheinland-pfälzischen Landeshauptstadt Mainz befindet sich am südwestlichen Rand der Neustadt, wurde 2011 täglich von ca. 60.000 Reisenden und Besuchern frequentiert und gehört zur zweithöchsten Preisklasse der DB Station&Service.
Der heutige Hauptbahnhof wurde 1882–1884 nach Plänen von Philipp Johann Berdellé im Rahmen der Stadterweiterung nach dem Deutsch-Französischen Krieg als neuer Centralbahnhof errichtet.
