Der Federsee bei Bad Buchau im oberschwäbischen Landkreis Biberach ist mit einer Fläche von 1,4 km² der zweitgrößte See in Baden-Württemberg. Er liegt inmitten des mit 33 km² größten zusammenhängenden Moorgebietes Südwestdeutschlands und ist mit ihm der Rest eines einst sehr viel größeren, etwa 50 km² bedeckenden nacheiszeitlichen Sees. Dieser Komplex aus See und Moor stellt heute den Kern des geologischen Federseebeckens dar, das nach Renaturierungsmaßnahmen inzwischen mit seinen früheren Ufern und Inseln eine überragende natur- und kulturhistorische Bedeutung besitzt.
