Der Bahnhof Schwandorf ist, nach dem Regensburger Bahnhof, der wichtigste Regionalverkehrsknoten in der Oberpfalz und einer der beiden noch betriebenen Bahnhöfe der Stadt Schwandorf. Er ist bei der Deutschen Bahn in der Kategorie 4 eingeteilt.
Der Bahnhof wurde am 12. Dezember 1859 von der AG der Bayerischen Ostbahnen mit der Eröffnung der Bahnstrecke Nürnberg–Schwandorf–Regensburg in Betrieb genommen. Schon knapp vier Jahre später, am 1. Oktober 1863, wurde die Bahnstrecke Schwandorf–Weiden ihrer Bestimmung übergeben, die 1865 bis Cheb verlängert wurde. Nachdem am 7. Januar 1861 eine Verbindung nach Cham eingeweiht wurde, war die Strecke ab Herbst desselben Jahres durchgehend über Furth im Wald und Pilsen bis Prag befahrbar. Somit liefen durch die Stadt zwei Trassen in Nord-Süd- und Ost-West-Richtung. Diese Linien bestehen noch heute, wobei man Schwandorf nicht mehr als „Eisenbahnerstadt“ bezeichnen kann, wie es früher der Fall war.
