Die Pleiße ist ein rechter Nebenfluss der Weißen Elster in Sachsen und Thüringen. Sie mündet im Leipziger Gewässerknoten. Der Fluss ist durch den Pleiße-Radweg gut erschlossen.
Der Name Pleiße ist altsorbischen Ursprungs und bedeutet: „das Sümpfe bildende Wasser“. Sie gab dem im Mittelalter bedeutsamen Pleißenland an ihrem Unterlauf den Namen.
