Die Ordnungspolizei bildete in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus das organisatorische Dach der uniformierten Polizeikräfte im Deutschen Reich. Sie wurde von Kurt Daluege geleitet und war dem Reichsführer SS und Chef der Deutschen Polizei Heinrich Himmler direkt unterstellt. Die Ordnungspolizei war an der Durchführung von Kriegsverbrechen sowie dem Holocaust, Porajmos und Krankenmorden maßgeblich beteiligt.
Die deutsche Polizei wurde bereits ab 1933 zentralisiert und dann 1936 in zwei Dienstzweige unterteilt: die Ordnungspolizei und die Sicherheitspolizei. Zuständig für die Neuorganisation war Heinrich Himmler, der als „Reichsführer SS und Chef der deutschen Polizei im Reichsministerium“ dem Innenminister und als SS-Führer Hitler direkt unterstellt war.
