Leipzig Hauptbahnhof ist der zentrale Personenbahnhof in Leipzig und steht mit täglich rund 120.000 Reisenden und Besuchern auf Platz 13 der meistfrequentierten Fernbahnhöfe der Deutschen Bahn. Der Kopfbahnhof mit 23 Bahnsteiggleisen, von denen 22 im Reiseverkehr genutzt werden, gehört zu den 21 Bahnhöfen der höchsten Preisklasse 1 von DB Station&Service und ist mit einer überdachten Grundfläche von 83.640 Quadratmetern der flächenmäßig größte Kopfbahnhof Europas. Die Fassade des Empfangsgebäudes zur Innenstadt ist 298 Meter breit.
Bezüglich der Anzahl der Bahnsteiggleise wird er nach Rückbauten seit 1996 in Europa vom Frankfurter, Münchner und Zürcher Hauptbahnhof sowie dem Pariser Ost- und Nordbahnhof übertroffen.
