Der Kyffhäuserkreis ist ein Landkreis im Norden von Thüringen. Nachbarkreise sind im Norden der Landkreis Nordhausen und der sachsen-anhaltische Landkreis Mansfeld-Südharz, im Osten der Saalekreis und der Burgenlandkreis, beide ebenfalls zu Sachsen-Anhalt gehörend. Im Süden liegt der Landkreis Sömmerda sowie der Unstrut-Hainich-Kreis. Im Westen befindet sich der Landkreis Eichsfeld.
Beliebt bei Touristen sind das Schloss Sondershausen und das Besucherbergwerk in Sondershausen, die Modelleisenbahn in Wiehe, das Bauernkriegspanorama in Bad Frankenhausen, die Barbarossahöhle in Rottleben und das Kyffhäuserdenkmal.
