Das Nördlinger Ries ist ein Naturraum im Südwestdeutschen Stufenland und liegt im Grenzgebiet zwischen Schwäbischer Alb und Fränkischer Alb im Städtedreieck Nürnberg – Stuttgart – München. Es dehnt sich zum größten Teil auf den schwäbischen Landkreis Donau-Ries in Bayern aus, ein kleiner Anteil befindet sich im baden-württembergischen Ostalbkreis. Ein geringer Anteil entfällt auf den mittelfränkischen Landkreis Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen, ebenfalls in Bayern.
Es handelt sich um die Einheit 103 – Ries
innerhalb der naturräumlichen Haupteinheit D58 – Schwäbisches Keuper-Lias-Land
