Das Königreich Bayern war ein Staat in Mitteleuropa. Es hatte seinen Ursprung in dem am 26. Dezember 1805 beim Frieden von Pressburg zwischen den Bevollmächtigten des französischen Kaisers Napoleon Bonaparte und des deutschen und österreichischen Kaisers Franz II./I. abgeschlossenen Friedensvertrag. Am 1. Januar 1806 erfolgte in München die Proklamation von König Maximilian I. Joseph.
Das Staatsgebiet umfasste nach mehreren Gebietsanpassungen seit 1815/16 das Kurfürstentum Bayern, zahlreiche säkularisierte altbayerische Gebiete wie die ehemals reichsunmittelbaren Fürstentümer des Hochstift Passaus und der Fürstpropstei Berchtesgaden sowie den Rupertiwinkel, die linksrheinische Pfalz sowie weite Teile Frankens und Schwabens.
