El Reino de Baviera fue un estado que existió desde 1806 hasta 1918. El elector Maximiliano I José, de la casa de Wittelsbach se convirtió en el primer rey de Baviera en 1806. El trono le pertenercería a su familia hasta la disolución del reino tras la Primera Guerra Mundial.
Muchos de los límites modernos de Baviera fueron trazados luego de 1814 con la firma del Tratado de París, en el que Baviera le cedía el Tirol y Voralberg al Imperio austríaco, en tanto que recibía Aschaffenburg y partes de Hesse-Darmstadt. Como parte del Imperio alemán, el reino era superado en tamaño sólo por Prusia.
