Mamming ist eine Gemeinde im niederbayerischen Landkreis Dingolfing-Landau. Der gleichnamige Hauptort ist Sitz der Gemeindeverwaltung und der Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Mamming, dessen Mitglied die Gemeinde ist.
Die Gründung des Ortes Mamming gehört zu den Siedlungen der Frühzeit, zur langen Reihe der „Ing-Orte“ am rechten Isarufer. Diese Ortsnamen mit der Endung „-ing“ deuten auf eine Gründung im 5./6. Jahrhundert hin. Neben die Ing-Orte traten im 8. Jahrhundert die vielen -haus und -ham, die -hofen und -kofen-Orte, gerade auch um Mamming, die das neue Siedlungsgebiet ausbauten. Auch diese Orte gehören in die urkundenlose Frühzeit.
