Der Kocher ist der nach der Wasserführung zweitgrößte Nebenfluss des Neckars und mündet, von rechts aus östlicher Richtung kommend, nördlich von Heilbronn. Er fließt im Osten und Norden von Baden-Württemberg, ist nach üblicher Oberlaufzuordnung etwa 169 km lang und hat ein etwa 1960 km² großes Einzugsgebiet.
