Die Nidda ist ein Fluss in Hessen. Sie entspringt im Vogelsberg und mündet nach einer Fließlänge von rund 90 Kilometern an der Wörthspitze an der Gemarkungsgrenze zwischen den Frankfurter Stadtteilen Höchst und Nied mit einer mittleren Wasserführung von etwa 13 m³/s in den Main.
Der Name Nidda gehört zu den ältesten Gewässernamen Europas. Die im 1. Jahrhundert an der Nidda errichtete Römerstadt Nida deutet darauf hin, dass die Römer den Flussnamen bereits vorfanden. Die älteste mittelalterliche Erwähnung findet sich in einer Urkunde des Lorscher Codex aus dem Jahr 782. Da der Gewässername Nida in ganz Europa verbreitet ist, beispielsweise in Polen, im Baltikum, in Skandinavien, auf den britischen Inseln und in Westeuropa, führen Sprachwissenschaftler den Namen auf die Indogermanische Ursprache zurück.
