Das Tor wurde um 1300 als Teil der Stadtmauer errichtet und diente sowohl der Verteidigung als auch der Erhebung von Zöllen.
Der Name bezieht sich auf das nahegelegene Dorf Graach , zu dem das Tor Zugang gewährte. Ursprünglich verfügte das Tor über einen Boden mit Schießscharten , Warteräumen für Soldaten und möglicherweise einer hölzernen Rechen- oder Zugbrücke.
Im Jahr 1689 wurde das Tor unter der Herrschaft Ludwigs XIV. von französischen Truppen teilweise zerstört. Im Jahr 1714 wurde es wiederaufgebaut und erhielt eine neue Funktion: die eines Gefängnisses. Später wurde es als Unterkunft für Obdachlose genutzt.
1985 wurde das Tor in ein Heimatmuseum umgewandelt.
