Die Kathedrale von Burgos ist eine gotische Kathedrale in Burgos und die Bischofskirche des Erzbistums Burgos. Sie ist der Jungfrau Maria geweiht und berühmt für ihre Größe und Architektur. Seit 1984 ist sie UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe.
Der Bau der ersten großen, spanischen Kathedrale im gotischen Stil wurde von König Ferdinand III. von Kastilien und Maurizio, dem Bischof von Burgos, in Auftrag gegeben. Anlass war die Hochzeit Ferdinands mit Beatrix von Schwaben. Es galt, die veränderte Rolle Kastiliens im europäischen Machtgefüge durch eine adäquate Bischofskirche zu demonstrieren. Baubeginn war am 20. Juli 1221 auf dem Gelände der früheren romanischen Kathedrale. Verantwortlicher Baumeister war ein namentlich nicht bekannter Franzose. Nach neun Jahren war die Konstruktion der Apsis abgeschlossen. Der Hochaltar wurde am 20. Juli 1260 das erste Mal geweiht, anschließend ruhte der Bau fast 200 Jahre.
